WORKING
TRIALS TRAINING
Acorn DTC are now offering Working Trials training at Oakwood Park
Kennels. Some people who have expressed interest are only able to
attend on weekdays, while others prefer weekends, so sessions will
be held approximately every ten days, alternating between Wednesdays
and Saturdays.
Due to the varied levels of ability of dogs and handlers, the sessions
will be open, not run as courses. This has the disadvantage that everyone
may be at a different stage of training but the advantage that we
can learn from watching and helping each other. It also means that
anyone who can attend on both Wednesday and Saturday may do so if
they wish.
It is our intention to give help and tuition on all aspects of Working
Trials training however it must be made clear that we are restricted
on the amount of land available for tracking. Anyone seriously interested
in competition will need to find somewhere they can practice longer
tracks than our space will allow.
Sessions will start at 10.00 am and cost £5.00 they will last
as long as it takes to work through all the basic exercises. Due to
the nature of trials exercises, they do not all lend themselves to
being worked as a ‘class’. For example heelwork can be
practised as a group but sendaways would be done individually. Therefore
if only one or two people turn up all work may be completed quite
fast but if there are lots then it could take at least a couple of
hours. A packed lunch might be handy!
